Corsair basketball teams each start the 2015-2016 seasons with tournament wins

The ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ men’s and women’s basketball teams kicked off the 2015-2016 season this past weekend at ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ’s Tripp Athletic Center with back-to-back victories, each clinching a tournament win. The men’s basketball team defeated Mitchell College and Springfield College in the Hampton Inn Tournament. The women’s team earned their victories against Rivier University and The United States Coast Guard Academy in the Fairfield Inn & Suites tournament.

 on Friday, November 13 at ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ, coming out with a 102-93 victory over Mitchell College. The team battled Springfield College in the second round of the tournament on Saturday night, earning a 73-71 victory and the Tournament title. Senior Jordan Rezendes of Onset, MA was the leading scorer in both games. For his efforts, he was named the Hampton Inn Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

 on Saturday night with a 37-point victory over Rivier College, winning the first round of the Fairfield Inn & Suites tournament with a final score of 79-42. The team took the tournament crown on Sunday when they beat out the United States Coast Guard Academy 73-59. Senior captain Beth Castantini of Newburyport, MA dropped 43 points between both games to earn Most Outstanding Player for the weekend.

The men’s team will return to action Wednesday, Nov. 18 at home against Brandeis at 6 p.m. The women’s team will play again on Wednesday, Nov. 18 when they host WPI at 8 p.m.
